Default Working Holiday Visa (IEC)

Hi there,
I am hoping that someone might be able to give me some information or answers.

I am a UK citizen, born in the UK but currently live in the US and am now a US citizen too.
I have applied for the IEC visa because being a UK citizen said I was eligible.
I have just turned 30 (will be 31 October 2022)

My questions are:
Am I right in hearing that once I turn 31 I will no longer be eligible for this visa?
And will the fact that I am living in the US currently hinder my application at all? Or do I need to move back to the UK first?

Thank you

It's 18 to 30 Inclusive so you would need to validate your letter of introduction - which you do at the border on entry to get your work permit - prior to your 31st birthday (when it will become invalid to validate) - but once your work permit is issued, your age won't make any difference.. you could validate your LOI one day before your birthday.

If you used your US Citizenship status you could check the RO options - the age is 18-35. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration...nizations.html

I'm sorry, I don't know if living in the US could impact your application.. I can't see anything on the website about it https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration...anada/iec.html

Actually I think it's just the letter has to be issued before 31st birthday and it's valid for 1 year.

You are correct, apologies! (I had forgotten)

If we approve your work permit application, you must enter Canada while your Port of Entry (POE) Letter is still valid. You do not have to enter Canada before your birthday.
christmasoompa could you please amend my original post to reflect this? Thank you

If you get an ITA to apply for a WP you've passed the age eligibility requirements & it doesn't matter if you age out thereafter. It's the ITA you need to receive before ageing out.

The last IEC draw for this year is 12 Nov.

UK citizens have no specific residency requirements but need to reference a UK address in their application. Check here:
