Is this a wise idea?
Hi everyone,
I am sponsoring my husband and I am canadian born. He is irish & british (both passports) and we live in N.Ireland.
One possibility we are thinking about is as follows:
Sending off application in the next 2 weeks, just waiting on his medical.
Once I get approved as a sponsor, hopefully within 60 days as per website, we book one way tickets to Canada for ~June 21st (our 1st anniversary incidentally )
If the passport request comes before then, happy days
If not, he flies to Canada with me anyways on his British passport and leaves his Irish passport in the UK with family.
We are moving into my dad's house so we won't be paying rent/food/bills and I will get a job to support us (Any job, Tim Hortons here I come!)
He doesn't work obviously and will be a house husband. When his passport is requested, his dad will post the Irish passport to london and then forward it on to us upon its return.
We go across the border at Buffalo (right beside where dad lives) and come back over to activate it.
We will be bringing our 3 dogs and 1 cat with us, plus our luggage. Do you reckon customs would have a problem with husband coming in as a visitor until his visa arrives? Do we just lay it out straight?
It gives us 5 months basically from visa application until we potentially fly. Our case should be pretty straightforward as we've lived together for years, have a house (selling it to sister), combined finances, loads of evidence, no criminal past or poor health. So hopefully it won't take much longer than 5-6 months.
We were initially going to go in August but we have a wedding in Canada to attend at the end of June so we thought may as well just go in June if possible!
What do you reckon? Has anyone done it this route before?

But if you do a quick search you'll find plenty of threads from people who've done exactly that which should help. Of course you'd need to be prepared for him to be refused entry, as it wouldn't be guaranteed, but if you're ok with that then it's definitely an option.
Good luck.
