The wait begins...
We are 1 week in after receiving our 1st brown envelope for receipt of our skilled worker app.and we are already in the dark phase of did we forget to do x or y!
May be a daft question, but other than security issues are CIC able to refuse applications after they have sent the receipt of application (assuming we pass the points)? We hate the thought of waiting the (quoted) 30 months before finding out we have lost our money and have to start all over again.
Also, does anyone know of any BC newspapers that do a weekly version that they send to the UK?

I'm sorry but AOR only indicates that application was received and met the basic definition of application (completed and signed forms, fee, photos, and minimum required docs) - it doesn't indicate anything about substance of your application, your claims or evidence.
Case may be refused on the basis of any of several factors at any given time prior to visa being issued and main factors are here:
- failing medical check
- failing criminal check
- failing security check
- failing to conclusively prove all your claims
- submitting fraudulent application or evidence
- not reaching pass mark not only at the time of application but also pass mark that will be in place when case is assessed and at any time before visa is to be issued (section 77 of Regulations)
- if officer determines that number of points awarded is not a sufficient indicator of whether the skilled worker may become economically established in Canada (section 76(3) of Regulations)
- if there is substantial change in circumstances between visa issuance and landing.
So, nothing is guaranteed until you have the PR visa and complete landing process.

There are others such as North Shore News, North Shore Outlook etc, free weeklies, and many more smaller community based ones. More info if you need it, just ask.
The Georgia Straight is good for modern culture, youth, music and underground stuff.
