Default Visiting the states now I am PR

I "landed" as PR this morning (have been here on WP for 18 months) and have 2 questions:

1) will I still need to get a visa waiver when I visit the states for short trips?
2) before my PR card arrives, can I visit the states or should I wait until I have my actual card? (I do have an immigrant visa stuck in my passport by Seattle CIC).

I think you'll still need to fill the visa waiver as you are still, I presume, on a british passport. From reading other threads, i believe you can still travel without a PR card (although you might get asked a few more questions when you return to Canada).

Did you 'land' at the CIC office in Victoria, or did you go to the States?

Just out of interest, did you call them to make an appointment or just turn up?

Thanks.

They only do "landing" on a Tuesday between 8am and 3pm. I went on Friday to ask about their procedure and they said as all my papers were in order and I already was living here I did not need an appointment. I just turned up at 7.55am this morning and they processed me in half an hour.

That's good to know, as hopefully when we finally 'land' it'll be at the office in Victoria. So i appreciate that info.

Many congratulations on your own landing.
