Default Which Visa to Apply For?

Hello! I haven't posted for a long time. The last time was in the Australia forum!

I am a Canadian citizen through birth, I will be looking at getting my daughters citizenship application in shortly.

What Visa would I need to apply for, for my partner (unmarried) and two step children to move to Canada with us? Spousal Visa is it?

The step kids are 18 and 20 so within the age range still of under 22..

Thanks!

Yep, family class (spousal visa) for your wife. And her children will be dependents on her visa application - https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration...-children.html

Good luck.

I have almost completed the Visa application for my family, however one question Im a bit stuck with is as below..

provide proof that you will live in Canada with your common-law partner once they become a permanent resident of Canada
Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts as Im a bit lost with that one!
I do intend on going ahead of the rest of them to find a job etc etc.. But im not sure how to prove that!

Usual things people would use would be any ties you already have in Canada i.e. if you have a home there already etc. If not, then evidence you're preparing for the move - email exchanges with a realtor, a bank account being set up, job applications, that kind of thing. And a letter just confirming it would work, but saying you can't do too much until the visa is in hand, that's usually acceptable too.

Thank you!! Thats really helpful. I have family there that I can reference plus I am going to open a bank account and I can probably quote some conversations that I have had online with people re: work already!!

Cheers!

Just a quick question..

I am literally just about to submit our Family Sponsorship Visa application..

Correct me if I am wrong, but I am including my partner and her son, (my step son), on the visa and also for the fees. But our daughter between us, who I am awaiting Citizenship Certificate for, doesn't need to be on the Visa as she should get Citizenship? ( I am Canadian born so she gets Citizenship through me).

You can request urgent processing for her proof of Citizenship.

https://ircc.canada.ca/english/helpc...num=1558&top=5
In some cases, we may be able to process applications faster than our normal processing times.

You can apply urgently for a citizenship certificate (proof of Canadian citizenship) for reasons such as:
  • to move your minor child (under 18) to Canada and they
    • were born outside Canada, and
    • have a Canadian parent
and

Urgent processing: Submitted online application

Fill out the web form(opens in a new tab) to explain why you need urgent processing.

Include
You likely didn't need to include her on your application for family sponsorship as you can't sponsor a Citizen

Thank you! I believe she needs to be on one of the forms as it requested ALL family members. But to mark her down as 'non accompanying'.. after I re-read it 100 times its definitely correct!
I may try the Citizenship Certificate to be speeded up though! That would be very useful!

Strangely last week I received a $395 refund on my fee! No explanation or anything.. which then left me a bit worried! 🤣

However yesterday, we received Biometrics requests for my partner and step children!! Does the biometric request indicate that things are moving a long ok?

Yeah don’t go the “spousal visa” route blindly, Canada calls it family sponsorship and it depends on your relationship status. If you’re married, it’s straightforward spousal sponsorship, if not, you need to qualify as common law which means at least 12 months living together, otherwise you can’t sponsor yet, that’s where people get stuck. The kids can be included as dependents under your partner’s application since they’re under 22, that part is fine. So first question is, are you married or clearly common law, if yes then go sponsorship, if not you’ll need to sort that first before anything else.

Received a letter yesterday. Application to sponsor has been successful!

Was kind of expecting it to take 12-14 months and not 2.5!! 🤣🤣

So just sponsor approval? Yes, that's the first step, generally takes 30-60 days so you're a bit over the average processing time.

The whole thing will take the 12-14 months (roughly).
