URGENT! Experts and anyone else pelase help! Regarding PR card
Thanks to the help of all the experts and the people on this forum I have finally landed in Toronto today as an Immigrant.
BUT - this si my problem -
At the immigration post in Canada the immigration officer told me that I will receive a notice for my PR card and that I have to go and collect it personally. I have to come back to the US for work before I move to Toronto again in 2 to 3 months and she told me that I may not be able to re- enter Canada without my PR Card.
What can I do in this case?
From my readings on the forum I was under the impression that the PR card is mailed to the address that you state in Canada.
Also - I thought that one can apply for a visitors visa if one needs to re enter Canada without the PR card.
I am really worried about this please advise.
Thank you

My PR card was mailed to me ,about 1 month after landing. I think the officer misinformed you.

What "immigration post" are you talking about? The port of entry where you
arrived and went through the landing process or CIC office in Toronto?
One of the stages of landing process is initiation of PR Card process -
cards are then mailed to the residential address you provided during
landing.
But if (regardless what happened during landing) you went to the CIC office
in Toronto then you got the information about applying for PR Card by those
who are already PR.
So, what happened during landing?

Attention Mr.Miller: regarding PR Card
The immigration officer at the port of entry into Canada asked me if I had an address in Canada. I gave it to her and she then told me they would send a notice to that adress asking me to pick up my PR Card personally. When I asked her if the PR Card is mailed to you directly she said no only the notice for pick up is mailed to you.
I did not go to the CIC office. This happened at the port of entry where I arrived and went through the landing process

Re: URGENT! Experts and anyone else pelase help! Regarding PR card
you can apply for a travel document at a Canadian consulate abroad.
you'll need your passport, recent photo, copy of certificate of PR
(white sheet). the processing fee is CAD $50. I was told it would take
two weeks, but they called me to pick it up the next day.

Re: URGENT! Experts and anyone else pelase help! Regarding PR card
Could you pls. tell me what you did for the settlement funds/proof of
funds? Did you carry a cashiers check for the whole amount or a part
of it & bank statement, etc. What did they ask about it. Also may I
request you to detail the whole process at the port of entry.
Thanks in advance.

Sure RT
1. regarding proof of funds its not a big deal. I had taken out a bank statement from my US bank showing more than the required amount and I carried 2,000 US $ in travellers checks with me.
The officer did not even ask me about the travellers chackes but its awlays good to carry some money with you like this. she did ask me for the proof of funds and I showed her my bank statement she asked me if that was in US dollars I told her yes it is. thats all she did not take the statment just gave it back to me.
the process is really simple"
when u cross the border into Canada there are booths like a toll plaza this is if you are driving from the US into Canada.
the officer in the booth asked us why we are here and we said to land as immigrants. she gave is a slip of paper with 2 landing written on it.
next we went into the immigration office and the immigration officer asked us for our landing souments which we gave to her. she asked us if we had an address in canada which we gave to her. Then she was not satisfied with the photos on our landing papers so we got new ones taken there itself and then she asked us for the proof of funds which we showed. after that she asked us if we were carrying all or stuff with us we said no we will get it later. so she asked us why we are here today we told her that the visa was expiring so we landed and we are going to apply for a SIN card and open a bank account and look for apartments. she was ok with that.
she made us sign the landing papers and then told us to move onto customs which is where you declare all your belingings so that you do not have to pay tax on them later.
the whole landing process at immigration took about 15 mins and too coz we had to take new photos. thats all.
Just be confident and all the best to you!
