Hi, I am new here. I am a British citizen who lived in the US for 13 yrs and hold a current US PR card. I moved from the US to Canada with my husband (who is Canadian) in September 2014. We came by car and I was given a 6mo visitor visa at the border, and advised by the immigration agent to apply for Canadian permanent residency right away. I sent my PR application off at the beginning of January via courier. It was received Jan 3rd, but I still have had no acknowledgement from CIC, or been given a case number. I see from the VERY helpful wiki article on this site, that that is quite normal. My visitor status expired and I applied for and was granted a years extension valid through Feb of 2016.

However, I would really like to travel to the UK and visit family this summer, and not sure if I should. I was hoping to at least have a case number to prove I had applied for permanent residency, but so far do not have even that. I did do a search of the forums on this subject,without yield, and I have searched the CIC website too. I know their official answer is "we cannot guarantee re-entry", but I wondered if anybody on here has travelled to the UK whilst waiting for their PR status to be granted, and under a visitor visa? I apologise if this is a FAQ that I'm missing the answer to.

If CIC sent you a visitor record for the extension until Feb 2016 then you can travel until that expires. Good to go.
