I think the issue is country of origin, the people on short term permits all seem to be from Jamaica.

You can apply for the Open Work Permit at the same time or after you have the Study Permit. The spouse can work for any company, doing any job for any length of hours. As far as I am aware, there are no restrictions on what he/she may do so for a job, so long as they pay tax LOL!!

All very useful information.
We will certainly be following up the student option, ..if one of us is accepted for start of term in September 2006 or January 2007, then it sounds like a great opportunity for both spouse and student!

Probably not, but the hospital would probably insist on a medical as a condition of employment.

Hospital maintenance would require BC trades ticket as it's public sector and unionised, strongly enforced too.
