Default Residential address question

I heard that in order to apply for SIN, health insurance, and of course the PR
card, I'd need a "residential address".
Would a room at a Y or a motel that I rent at a *monthly* rate count as such? I
know that monthly rates have a different tax status; so would the monthly bill
count as "proof of address"?
