re-entering canada before PR card arrives
Hi,
I have landed as Permanent Resident but have yet received my PR card.
I was advised by the immigration officer not to leave the country (I
am in canada) until my card arrives. Does anyone know why this? What
kind of problems could I expect if tried to leave and re-enter canada?
It seems strange that having officially landed I can't leave the
country.
Thanks,
Jon

Re: re-entering canada before PR card arrives
Simply because your PR visa is already used - it was issued as single entry
visa to facilitate your landing process. You don't have any legal proof of
your PR status in Canada, thus you may not be able to return. If you need to
leave then go, but make sure that someone forwards to you your PR Card once
it arrives. If you won't have a PR Card then you will need to apply for
Travel Document through Canadian visa post abroad to facilitate your return
to Canada.
