Q for Mr. Miller: Information for Additional Family Members when Sponsoring Spouse
Dear Mr. Miller,
I am marrying a non-Canadian citizen later this year, and will be
sponsoring him to come and live with me in Canada. We have looked
over the joint application kit, and we are confused about what is
meant by "additional family members" in the application for permanent
residence. I will be sponsoring my spouse, and only my spouse (he has
no children or dependents). The forms say that additional family
members must fill out the forms, take medicals, go through police
checks whether they are accompanying the applicant or not. Does this
mean that his parents and 21 year old brother have to go through
this--even though they have no intention of ever moving to Canada? It
seems a bit odd to me, but the forms are not clear.
Can you clarify this?

If you are talking about form IMM 5406 then your spouses parents siblings
and children (if any) must be listed there. But only those family members
who meet the definition of dependant will go through admissibility check -
so. if your spouse doesn't have children then he is the only one doing
medicals.

No medical "additional family members" meaning non immigrating parents,siblings. Just thier info DOB address etc...
Yes medical for "family members" immigrating and dependent children usaully even when they are not immigrating in case you want to sponsor
That confused me too. Since my daughter was 22 I only included her in the "additional family info"
