Stats how the majority of jobs are not posted or advertised. That is why it is so important to be proactive in job search.
It works, but it take a lot of work and patience. People very actively looking for work should be putting in more hours than if they were actually working.

Lets see. Since moving to BC Canada I have met a Boeing 707/727 pilot
who is from the middle east and is now driving taxis. Met a smart east
indian person who has two degrees with one a masters in chemical
engineering and now doing vacume and consumer goods sales. Met a
Banker in a employment class and has not been hired as his experaince
is not recognized from the far east. Being a Network Support tech,
Cannot find any work. At any one time in a city the size of vancouver
with over 2 million people there is perhaps a top of 20 IT related
jobs advertised in the vancouver sun new paper. Met a IT manager from
Toronto who moved here asuming he could find a network managers job 6
months later nothing. got the point!!! Its a sad fact that Canada and
its bussiness enviroment do not recognize the experaince and degrees
of people from other countries. Including me. Do you self a favor,
stay far away from vancouver as you can Or, fetch up 10 or 20 grand
and goto college here.

I agree, IT sector in Vancouver is pretty much dead.
Even that EA building in Burnaby is practically empty.
On the other hand, East Vancouver (Hastings St.) seems to gain
population....![Smile](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Ordinarily, those ads from Vancouver Sun and The Province are only
harvesting resumes. I called some of those staffing agencies/companies
and they told me point blank that they were not "actually" hiring.
I feel that a [four year] degree from a regular US (state) university
is deemed worthless as well in Canada. Is it true in general?
Does anybody want to share his/her two cents?
For 20 grands: UBC, UVic, or SFU??

While in the U.K., I met a Canadian chartered accountant doing Accounts Receivables for a midsize UK company, I met an engineer who still cannot find anything except factory work, I former VP of sales (in Canada/US) that cannot even get an interview in the UK.
This is just fact -- it is difficult to land in a new country and take up where you left off.
I was out of work here in Canada and it took quite some time to find a job --- if all things were equal who would you hire -- someone with credentials and experience that you are familiar and comfortable with, or the opposite?
Of course it is difficult......but not impossible.
