Default PR inside Canada applicant - travel to US?

Hi. I am a US citizen and applied for PR status about two months ago
through the sponsorship of my Canadian common-law partner. My current
visitor status will expire July 4. I was planning to go back to the
US around July 15 for a short visit, and was wondering whether or not
it was necessary to apply for an extension of stay for such a short
time (whether it would be noticed at the border, etc). Now I am
hearing that I am not supposed to leave Canada at all, and that it
could cause my application to be disqualified. Am I really a prisoner
in Canada until the application goes through? Can I take a trip to
the US? What about extending my stay? Thanks for any advice!

Unlike the USA that DOES make you a prisoner of the country until your
immigration status is approved, Canada permits applicants to go on short
visits elsewhere.

IF you have applied for inbound sponsorship, you should be fine.
However, that also depends on what your actual status is. There may also be
specific circumstances to your case, so you should contact CIC and ask them
this question, just to be on the safe side.
