Default PR card renewal

I'm trying to find out about any time restrictions re submitting my pr card renewal. It's due to expire in May 2015, looking on CIC website indicates it can take 5-ish months to process renewals. Can i submit my application now, or do i have to wit until expiry date is closer? Only reason I ask is that I am expecting to travel to UK in June for a christening and a wedding, so don't want to get caught out with no pr card, My hope is that if i can submit application now, there will be plenty of time for processing.
Thanks in advance!
Pip

You can submit anytime. most try to time it so the get maximum use of their old card but that's not required

i was led to believe dont renew more than 6months before they run out.
i read it somewhere on the www,
Our cards are due for renewal as well but we are waiting until just inside the 6months.

Apply far enough in advance to receive the new one before the old one expires if you can, so if it's taking 5 months to process, aim to send the renewal in around 5-6 months out.

Unless things have changed in the last year, you keep the old one until your new one arrives, so your not without a PR card during the process. I never had to send my old one in.
