I will be arriving in Calgary in June to start my HRSDC approved job, but have a couple of questions about the permits that I will need.

Work Permit. My family will arrive a month or two after me since they wish to wait until our house sale is finalised, Does this mean that I have to do a separate application for them?

Study Permit. Do I need to get an acceptance from a particular school for a study permit for my 10 year old son, or can a study permit be issues on a more general basis?

My husband went to Calgary prior to me. When I landed I took a copy if my husbands employment authorisation with me to immigration at Calgary airport. They then gave my daughter and I visitor records to staple in our passports. When the time came to re-apply for work permit and visitor visa my daughter was ready for school. We made enquiries with CPC at Vegreville who issued us with a visitor visa with an endorsement saying that my daughter could attend elementary school. We never had to apply for a separate study permit.
