Default Passport Stamp in person at Los Angeles?

Hi,

I received Passport Request letter from Los Angeles Consulate.
I want to go to LA Consulate in person and get it stamped. Do I need to take anything else with me beside the letter and photographs? Also do they return passport same day?

Thanks.

Just adding some info:
The passport request letter that I received didn't come in the popular brown envelope but in a white regular size envelope. My address on envelope was hand written and the envelope contained two pages.

Anyone heading to L.A. this week from SF bay area?

I searched the message board and couldn't find a single message describing experience of getting passport stamp in person at LA.
