Default Passport name

Hi all,

My partners name is different on her passport than it is in the birth certificate. It is essentially the same, but the middle name is spelt differently, along with a hyphenated surname, where one part was dropped further down the line and is not used in the passport.

Can we explain that when we submit documents when the ITA is issued etc, or should we contact passport office and have new passport to match birth certificate name exactly.

Far as I'm aware, the passport is the one that really matters, and that is how she spells it, I'm hoping it would be a non issue if UK gov is happy to issue passport with the name spelt as it is now.

Thanks
