Minimum time outside Canada before returning
Given the general guideline that a visitor can stay in Canada for 6 months, how long do you have to reside outside Canada before you can restart the 6 month clock for a new stay ?

There is no definitive time. It will depend on how long you will be staying again, how long since last visit, how many visits made, ties to home country, reasons for visiting and satisfying the examining officer on entry that you won't remain past the 6 months or will work or study. You can ask for over a 6 month stay but again the reasons as outlined above need to be met.
