Medical Care Service
Greetings,
One of the services that Canada offers is that you can receive free
medicare. I understand that this happens when a PR or a citizen lives
inside Canada. What if he or she travels outside Canada and,
unfortunately, needs some medical treatment abroad? Can he or she still
enjoy this free service?

Yes, and no.
Emergent care only will be covered only to the level covered by your
provincial health coverage, and it is "reimbursed". You pay and then
get reimbursement. This is usually insufficient in most countries, and
definitely insufficient in the US. Also, medicare does not cover such
things as prescriptions anywhere, even in Canada.
Therefore, most Canadians supplement their coverage at home, and obtain
travel medical insurance to supplement anything payable by medicare.
