Default Married to Canadian - can I get citizenship?

Hi all,

I want to run a quick question by you all please.

I'm a British citizen and am married to Canadian - we've been married for over 10 years. She moved to the UK to live with me. We were wondering whether I can apply for Canadian citizenship, even though I'm not living in Canada. I believe I have to live in Canada for 3 year in order to qualify, but understand that there may be a way around this.

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks,

You need to live in Canada as a permanent resident for 3 years.
Has your wife got her British citizenship?

Only if you claim and prove she gave birth to you.

Have you got permenent residency? that would be the first step. Which requires applying for a spous visa.

Then once you are PR you have ot stay in the country for 3 out of 5 years before you can apply for residency.

Have a look at the wiki it will explain all.

Sorry not quite right. To retain PR status you must reside in Canada for 2 years in every 5 years (There are exceptions) To obtain citizenship you must reside in Canada for 3 years in the 4 years preceding the date of the application.
