I understand. Sounds like a good idea to do both actually. That way we can have holidays as you say! lol.

The citizenship just means lots more forms

The problem with waiting for the rules if you are eligible now is that many many more people will qualify so processing times are bound to get longer.

The current rules are better if you qualify because they are strict physical presence rules. The test ... isn't a reason to delay. So long as you do a bit of prep (which is fun to do) you will be fine.

I would recommend anyone who qualifies under the present rules to apply before they change them!!

I agree with you. But he is set in his ways!!! What happens to my now adult kids? If they want to remain PR for the moment I take it that's OK? I wanted to do it altogether but they're not planning on doing it for a couple of years yet unless Mum and Dad pay for it...

Your adult children can do what they want!

Look after yourselves ... Or pay an extra $630 each for their applications!

1, C-6 doesn't change the physical present rules, just that you will only require 3 years out of 5 and that time as a temporary resident can be counted at 1/2 for a maximum of 1 year in the 5 year period.

Yes you will still need 4 years actually in Canada but 2 of those years can be as a TFW whereas right now you need 4 years as a PR.

My guess is (and I am speculating) that if someone meets the 4 years / 6 rule (as a PR) now there's a good chance their app would be processed quicker because less people will meet the rules that are in place right now (I think).

Doesn't it just!!!??!!!

I think we will renew and then apply for citizenship next year when hubby is 54. That way he will be a happy bunny!!

I'm studying and will be done sometime in late spring that way I can continue to focus on my studies rather than on "Discover Canada"

What was the reason for the sharp increase from $300 to $530 and then another $100 on top all in one year, does anyone know?

The fee is part of my issue. Current fee is like 45 hours of labor before taxes. That's how I place value on things, how long will it take me to work to make X amount.
