Hi Samantha!

We had our interview in May 2002. It went perfectly fine. The officer was nice and I'd even say supportive. All the questions were about work experience and our plans upon arriving in Canada. We were told we would get our immigration visa within 3 months. It's been 8 months already - still waiting...

Good luck with your interview!

Hello. Are you waiting 8 months after interview? Is it pretty usual for
LA? You have submitted all the documents required right? I will have
interview in LA in Feb and I was hoping to receive visa within couple of
months after interview if everything goes well but... My timeline is as
below.

Applied to Buffalo July 2001
Start processing Oct 2001
received Medical May 2002
Notice of interview Jan 2003
Interview date Feb 2003
receive visa ???

What is the standard time to receive visa after interview? Does everyone
know?

Hi Oguchi!
All our documents are fine. They are still doing our background check. I would not say this is usual for LA, every case is unique. At the time of the interview ask your officer whether your background check is completed. If it is not nobody can predict how soon you 'll get your visa. CIC is not in control of it. Largely it depends on your home country.
Good luck!

Hi;

I had my interview at LA Nov 2001, and they told me that I will get my
landing documents within 3-6 months but am still waiting, so you can
well imagine whats going on there I am saying this because I contacted
a couple of lawyers and they told me LA's processing time is
maximum...but again it change and also depends on many factors.

First I had an impression that they are doing all this security stuff
because i am a Muslim...but after reading the posts here it does not
looks like to be the case...anyways the questions that they asked me
were pretty much related to work experience, some family questions
asked for my FBI and police clearence from my home country ....hhmm
let me think what else....no rocket science questions ...lemme tell
you something they will not going to ask you something that you did;nt
tell them because they do not know about it only information they have
about you is the one you gave them....so make sure you know what did
you write in your application...also what I will suggest is to answer
to the point no less no more...because if you go on speak on something
more than what is required than chances are that they will make more
question from what you will going to tell them......so be
precise...and confident...

Now I have a question after reading these posts are they really so
slow...I mean precisely LA office because everyone seems to be just
waiting ..who got his/her interview in LA.... and let me tell you
these guys are really rude when it comes to answering your request for
status update....

Ya one more thing they don't accept credit card not even personal
cheques ...so you need to carry either cash of pay order ...so thats
about it...in my openion you are in for a lllloooonnngg wait if you
are getting interviewed at LA...so keep your finger crossed...

It is not LA visa post what holds the process of your case now - they
already completed interview and selection process. Now they wait for results
of background/security check. Fact that you are Muslim has nothing to do
with it - but your nationality, countries you resided in (and some cases
visited) and your background are the main factors affecting the time of such
check which is conducted completely outside and independently from CIC by
Canadian security agencies, with or without cooperation of authorities in
those countries. And the speed of such check depends not only from those
agencies but also from the level of cooperation (or often lack of) from
authorities in countries you resided in. So, in most cases those foreign
authorities are the ones to blame for lengthy background/security check.

Mr Miller, stop putting all the blame in other countries.Remember that takes
Canada more the 400 days just to look at your apllication. The service is poor,
and the first step to fix something is to Admit that you are not doing a good
job.

Processing officers do their job. Annual targets for 2002 were reached by
most visa posts already in September and October, so don't blame CIC or the
system - it is the number of applications exceeding in some visa posts 5
times the annual target what makes selection process slow.

But I replied to the claim that it is LA consulate to blame for long wait
since the interview - so, please don't try to take it again into the debate
about why overall process is that long. We've been there so many times in
past 12 months and just browse through archives and you'll see that issue
you are raising has been discussed here zillion of times. Unfortunately some
cannot comprehend the simple fact that Canada has annual targets (read
quotas) for immigration in each category and that such targets are widely
exceeded every year since 1999. Canada cannot take more immigrants in, so if
particular visa post has 3 times more qualified applicants than annual
target then obviously only one third of them will have their process
concluded in a year...

Canada cannot take more immigrants in, so if
particular visa post has 3 times more qualified applicants than annual
target then obviously only one third of them will have their process
concluded in a year...

i agree fully with mr. miller's point about the LA office not being responsible for the delays. we applied under the independent category and had our interview in LA on the 11th of april 2002. our landing papers were issued on the 24th of june 2002. that's quite quick by any standards so it really depends on the individual case.

Then for the love of God,stop taking application money. If you have 5 times more
applicants, you must have 5 times more application fee.Hire more people get
process done in 30 days.In that way people don't have to wait 400 days to get a
answer. Now the smart part:If you are aproved (in 30 days)then you go to a
waiting list until you fit in that year's target. You still have to wait but a
least you can get on with your life in case you do not make the cut
The point here ,is the waiting time for answer ,MR Miller. If we have to wait for
the year quota reach or turn then, that is part of life.
Understand!!!!!.Stop talking about that target because i understand that only a
X number of people can get inside of Canada per year. You like to confuse the
subject.
The point that a said before is that you love to blame other countries for the
delays.shame on you.

Default Re: L.A Interview

What you are proposing is something similar to US immigration system with
priority dates and their quotas as well as with people in some categories
waiting 5 to 15+ years for their Green Cards - our government decided not to
use anything like that. Instead new law introduced selection criteria and
pass mark as work in progress or a moving target. Such will be adjusted
periodically to meet needs of Canadian market and to take into account
number and quality of applications already in process. The American system
or anything alike you are proposing is not acceptable for many reasons - one
of most important ones is that under the scheme you propose someone approved
today (based on today's criteria and market conditions) will wait sometimes
5 or 7+ years to get a visa and by that time market may not need his or her
qualifications anymore.

But again - it is a fruitless argument, discussed here for over a year since
new law was proposed in current form couple years ago. We are here to
provide expert's advice on matters related to immigration application
process, not to discuss legislative matters. New law has been subject to
Parliamentary process and public consultations for long period before it was
finally approved and implemented - fact that you don't like it is really
irrelevant, sorry. Our laws are designed to serve Canadians, Canada and
Canadian economy, not to accommodate desires of those who wish to immigrate
here, just the same as immigration laws in any other country. You don't like
it then why do you want to come here in the first place?
