Kids on application

Hi
My son lives with my exwife in Florida and I live in New York City.I give her money
every month for his education. I want to apply to Canada as an independant immigrant.
Someone told me I would have to declare him in the application and that he would have
to get a passport and go through all the medical tests. As I do not intend to take
him with me, I think this is a little ridiculous. Is this true ? Thanks for your help

The standard process requires that your son is examined (declared on form, and a
medical). If you do not declare him, or send a letter with your application saying
that you have no intention whatsoever of bringing him to Canada to live, you will not
be allowed to sponsor him later under the Family Class category!
What if his mother were to die while he was still a child? Would there be someone
outside Canada that he could live with?
