NOC 1111.2 Accountants perform some or all of the following duties:

- Plan, set up and administer accounting systems and prepare financial information
for an individual, department, company or other establishment

- Examine accounting records and prepare financial statements and reports

- Develop and maintain cost finding, reporting and internal control procedures

- Examine financial accounts and records and prepare income tax returns from
accounting records

- Analyze financial statements and reports and provide financial, business and
tax advice

- May act as a trustee in bankruptcy proceedings

- May supervise articling students or other accountants.

Occupations in this group are characterized by the following aptitudes, interests and
worker functions as they relate to main duties:

- General learning ability to plan and set up accounting systems for individuals,
departments, companies and other establishments

- Verbal ability to develop reporting procedures and prepare financial information;
may act as a trustee in bankruptcy proceedings

- Numerical ability and clerical perception to examine accounting records and prepare
financial statements and reports

- Methodical interest in administering accounting systems, in examining financial
accounts and records and in preparing income tax returns from accounting records

- Innovative interest in coordinating information to develop cost finding and
internal control procedures; and in analyzing financial statements and reports

- Directive interest in consulting with clients to provide financial, business and
tax advice; may supervise articling students and other accountants

NOC 2147.2 Software Engineers - education and professional requirements

- Software engineers require a bachelor's degree in computer engineering, electrical
or electronics engineering, engineering physics, computer science, physics or
mathematics.

- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) by a provincial or territorial
association of professional engineers is sometimes required for employment and to
practice as a computer engineer.

- In Quebec, membership in the professional corporation for engineers is mandatory.

Software engineers perform some or all of the following duties:

- Analyze the requirements for the application of computer technology in real-time
environments for process or machine control, instrumentation, robotics,
telecommunications, environmental monitoring, remote sensing, medical and related
engineering, scientific and industrial applications

- Design and develop or coordinate the development, testing and implementation of
computer languages and computer software packages

- Supervise the work of programmers, technologists and technicians and other
engineering and scientific personnel.

NOC 2163 Computer Programmers - education requirements

- A bachelor's degree in computer science or in another discipline with a significant
programming component, such as mathematics, commerce or business administration or

- Completion of a college program in computer science is usually required.

- Specialization in commercial or engineering and scientific applications requires
specific post-secondary study or experience.

- Senior positions in this unit group, such as programmer analyst, require
experience.

Computer Programmers perform some or all of the following duties:

- Write computer programs or software packages by coding instructions and algorithms
into machine readable form

- Test, debug, document and implement computer programs or software packages

- Maintain existing computer programs by making minor modifications as required

- Act as a resource person, solving computer problems for users.
