Fiance in Canada, Im in England!
Hello,
I have a fiance in Victoria, Canada :
I want to be with her but I am a UK citizen, what are the options I have to get to Canada, I am filling out the imigration process but its taking time even to get the information together to send to the London office. I am applying as a Skilled worker as I currently work for IBM in a Techlical role.
I am being told that I can live in Canada for 3 months in the same house as my fiance whilst I apply as a common-law husband. I want to be out there with her by January next year.
Im slowly selling my UK life off and have blessings of all my relations and freinds but I feel I am getting stuck now and need guidance.
I know if I can get sponsorship so I attach my CV also.
Thanks,
Rob Turner

To be eligible to apply as sponsored common-law spouse you must live with your
fiancée for at least 12 months, not 3 months as you were told. And it is not
just "staying in the same house as your fiancée" - you must live together as a
common-law spouses, have emotional and financial dependency on each other and
be able to prove it. Same address is not enough.
The only way for you to get sponsored is to apply after your wedding if you
don't want to wait until you meet cohabitation requirements, unless you can
already meet requirements for conjugal partners - in such case you may be
sponsored now while you are abroad. But there is no inland sponsorship for
conjugal partners - so, if you want to move to Canada in January then your only
chance to start the process fast is to get married as soon as you arrive.
