Default Extending visitor visa for son

Happy Canada Day to all! Overcast here in Calgary after an amazing thunderstorm last night. Family bbq later. But in all the festivities, I need to ask about my son's status here in Canada. He's 17 months old and on an extended (12 month) visitor visa which is expiring in August. I assume I need to apply for an extension so he's not here illegally while we wait for his PR.

Long story - short version. OH and I got our COPR in April 2013. Activated our PR in Aug 2013. I was 3 months pregnant. Immigration officer said no need to do anything until after the baby was born and to wait until we moved here permanently before applying for an extension to the usual 6 month visa. We moved here Aug 2014 with our 6 month old son. Got him a 12 month visitor visa at the airport. We applied for his PR straight away which was processed here in Canada and then sent on to London where he was born. We are still waiting for his PR but the 12 month visitor visa is coming to an end next month. Even though his PR is being processed I still need to make sure his visitor visa is valid right? Just checking.

Thanks and enjoy the holiday today everyone.

Apply to extend the visitor record either online or submit a paper application.
CIC should be able to see that a PR application for your son has been submitted.

Thanks FL.

Does anyone know how long it takes to come through? Also, is my timing for applying right, ie. about a month or so before it expires?

Timescales vary depending if online or paper application. While awaiting a decision you are on Implied Status so no need to panic. CIC suggest around 30 days before expiry of current status.
