Experts please ... proof of residency?
Will a monthly rent bill from a Y or a hotel/motel be accepted as proof of
residency? All I know is that taxwise, monthly rates are treated as rent, but
would such a bill be accepted for application for SIN, Health Care, drivers
license?
Any iformation will be greatly appreciated

I don't know but here's an educated guess:
By itself I don't even think rent cheques for a house or mortgage
payments will count as proof of residency in terms of physical
presence.
You're going to need something that proves you were actually there,
such as appointment letters for visit to medical clinics, pay slips,
using your interac card at local stores etc.

Thanks for the ideas. I wasn't thinking about proof of physical presence in
Canada to meet the citizenship requirements (yet); maybe I got the term wrong,
but for all I know to apply for SIN, Health Care, bank account, even exchanging
your drivers' license you need a "residential address". And in connection with
questions about where can a new immigrant have the PR card sent it was
definitely stated by the experts on this newgsgroup that a hotel or motel
would not count as such. I wonder if there's a difference if you don't rent by
the day, but pay monthly rent.
After all, it would be a bit strange if a person wasn't allowed to live
permanently in a hotel, be it the Chateau Lake Louise or the YWMCA. Or am I
wrong here?
