Declaring foreign trips

One of my friend is applying for Candian citizenship and he was asking me about what
to write on the citizenship application form in the "Absence" scrtion. He has landed
about 10 years back in Canada and has made may short trips to the Unites States for
vacation and seeing friends etc. He does not rememeber the exact dates of all of
those trips now. The application form asks for specific dates (including the exact
day of travel). In this case what he should write on the application form. Please
note he is living in the Toronto area for past 10 years.
Any response will be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Mark

What, SPECIFICALLY, does the question ask?
It surely does not just read "absence". If your friend wants to obtain Canadian
citizenship, he/she should answer truthfully all questions on the form as completely
as possible.
If he does not remember specific dates, he should try to estimate how much time he
has been away over the last 10 years. Does the question ask for a total number of
days/months away from Canada cumulative? (I presume so). Has he made is usual
residence in Canada for most of the last ten years, or were there periods where he
lived away from Canada for a year or more at a time (large gaps)?
If he lived in Canada and took short vacations here and there, I don't see the
problem so long as he spent MOST of his time in Canada.
