Common-Law getting married?
Hi all,
We are planning to immigrate to Canada. Going as family class, my common-law spouse girlfriend is sponsering me.
We have recently applied to get married and have found out that it will take up to SIX MONTHS to get approval from the immigration office in Holland (where we are currently living). We do not want to delay our application that long.
Will it be fine to apply as common-law and inform them that we will be getting married at some time. Should we mention the marriage, or only mention it once it actually takes place. Or should we call off the marriage and postpone it until we get to Canada.
What would your advice be?
As an aside I thought it was a universal right to get married! I still cannot understand how they can make us wait this long.
