Hi all,
We are applying for our Childs first passport (2.5 year old and born 2023) and I am quite confused on the information required in his application (father is dual Canadian/British citizenship and Mother is Canadian). It asks for both maternal and paternal grandparents, both marriage certificates and birth certificates and it requires all of these to be originals as well as originals for his birth certificate and mothers birth certificate. Can anyone confirm if these are all in fact needed to be original?
We are a bit panicked as the UK govt changed their ruling on allowance to enter the country where they now require you to enter on a British passport if you have eligibility for one (which our son would through me) and we are due to travel to the UK in August and are now concerned we will not be able to enter without him holding a UK passport. Are we misinterpreting that rule change?
Further I am wondering, if he is deemed a british citizen through his father (me), is he obligated to hold a british passport? Seems a bit strange for a kid thats born in Canada with no real significant tie to the uk to be forced to hold a british passport.
Thanks
