Hi,

Anyone have any recent experience of how long an Employment Authorization (with
Software Program HRC exemption) takes at London CHC for a UK citizen?

We've applied around 5 weeks ago, was told to expect 2-4 weeks when applying in
person, although I've now noticed it shows to expect 4-8 weeks on the CHC UK web
site. I sent a query fax after 4 weeks but nothing back - I don't want to slow anyone
down with constant queries, so I guess I enquire again after 8 weeks.

Thanks for any help or advice.

Just thought I should say that this is a really good group; the people helping here
are doing people a really great service that reflects well on all Canadians. Thanks.

David.

Hi:

Just be patient, you can reasonably expect a response anytime soon.

My best advce is to have your employer call or fax the CHC and ask them to step on it
as your are needed urgently. This can get faster results.

London seems to be a very reasonable, fair and transparent post. I have = found them
to be among the most reliable.

They are routinely taking 6 weeks for this. While longer than one would = hope, they
are at least honest in their estimates.

It took me about eight months in 1992. The rate limiting step appeared to be the
HRD-C part of the process.

Got my info from http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/itw-e.html

Basically it allows some software job titles to shorten the local Human Resource
Center search to see if a local can do the job instead due to the shortage of skills.
I have a friend in Software with 4 years experience that got his in around 3 weeks
from CHC London back in June.

From my understanding if you have residency then this doesn't really apply.
Employment Authorization is just a permit to work - its nothing to do with PR or
Visas.

*** Caveat - I was the one asking the original question so judge my expertise in
these matters from that ***

Nice happy ending, so the advice of being patient and of an employer 'urgent' fax
both helped.

Got the letter through yesterday morning - took just over 5 weeks to be processed.
Sort of expected a fax or phone call so I was surprised to see it arrive in the mail.

Not sure if the fax from my employer worked or not, the day they faxed CHC London was
the day my letter was posted - either coincidence or almost instant in response.
Thanks to CHC London for that.

Now we're off to Vancouver, hopefully before all the rain *really* starts to fall.
We've spent many years practising with lots of rain here in the UK so we should feel
right at home...

Thanks to the group for lots of useful info and good luck to everyone else...

David.
