Change status - Student to permanent resident
I'm planning to do a 1 year post-graduate program in canada. After I
graduate, how do I change my Foreign Student status into Permanent
Resident status? I think the only way is under the skilled worker
category, right? Can I do it within canada or do I need to leave the
country?
Thanks in advance.

You would have to apply to an office outside Canada, probably Brazil, unless
you will have at least 12 months status after your course so you could apply
at Buffalo. But you would have to ensure that you have a US visa to attend
an interview. Also don't forget you require 1 years work experience to
qualify. Suggest you look at www.cic.gc.ca

Hi PMM,
I have a few more questions...I'm planning to take my wife with me.
After I get the study permit, does she automatically qualify to live
in canada with me while I'm studying? I will have the student visa,
and what about her? What kind of visa she will have? And she will be
abble to work full-time, right?
Thanks again for your attention

She will be included on your student permit as a dependent. To work full
time, she would have to apply and pay the fee for an open work permit as the
spouse of a student.
