Hi All,

I am looking to know, what is required to pass a immigration medical examination.

More specifically, what are the chances for an applicant who has had a (heart)
bypass surgery in the last one year, but is in fine health now, for passing the
medical exam in India?

Also how does it vary, if that person is a principal applicant, or the spouse of
the principal applicant.

Any light on this area will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

- Yogi

It doesn't matter if person is a principal applicant or a dependant - if one family
member is found medically inadmissible then all members are inadmissible.

But there is no way to answer your first question here in this group. Person in
question must apply for immigration visa and undergo medical tests to find out.
Everything depends from the opinion of medical experts who will review tests results
and the entire health history - if in their opinion person's condition may put
substantial burden on Canadian health system then such person and the rest of family
will get refusal.

You may want to have a medical done in advance to see what potential = problems there
will be. Though this may not provide definitive answer, = it will provide a guide.=20

In the case you mention, the reasons why the by pass surgery was = required would
probably be more significant than the surgery itself.

Yogi:

Before the person concerned does their medical obtain a full medical report form the
physician and surgeon(cardiologist) who did the bypass. It should incude the
diagnosis, treatmetn and prognosis as well as the results of any recent tests and
examinations. If you do not send in this infomration you wil almost certainly be
asked for it.

The recency of such an operation may pose a threat to an application for permanent
resident status.

Determination of medical admissibility, however, is made by a Medical Officer in
consideration of all available information. It is not possible to absolutely
determine this in advance.

If your conditions do not pose a threat of excessive demand of the Canadian
health-care system, and do not affect your employability in your field, then they
should not be grounds for inadmissibility. Additional information on this topic may
be found at Campbell, Cohen's web site at the following URL:

Medical inadmissibility of a dependent has the same impact on an application as in
the case of the principal applicant.
