Some people started to critising my postings just because I am bringing facts to all
the people. Listen, I don't mean to critisize Canada, I am just trying to bring the
facts to the people who wants to migrate to Canada.

In Canada there are hundreds of untold horror stories. You know why ? Because these
new immigrants avoid court or media if something bad happens to them. They keep it to
themselves. The reason is they did not had good experience with justice system and
media in their country. So untold horror stories never get to become NEWS.

When I first landed to Canada, a guy from Macedonia was staying next door from me. He
came to canada 3 months back as a IBM support Engineer. He told me people in Europe
compare canada with UK, USA, Germany. Because Canada is a developed nation. But after
coming here it's nowhere compared to these countries.

I am just trying to bring true picture of Canada to aspiring immigrants. Please don't
critisize me. Let me know if I am posting false information. All these immigrants
come to canada with very high hopes. And get shocked after coming to Canada. but now
there is no going back. Because back home they told all friends and family about
moving to canada in search of better life. They had left their jobs, packed all their
stuff to Canada. Now thery don't want to make fool of themselves returning back.

Well, I liked canadian people. They are very kind and helpful far more than
Americans. And I would like to stay in Canada. Also, I have a good job because I am
working in Senior position in IT.

Once again I am not critisizing Canada. I am bringing some of the true facts about
Canada. So don't critise me. Try to correct any information about canada that I
posted which you feel is not right

You know i think people are concentrating too much on bad events here. Canada is a
large country with a population of say just under 30 million people. UK is small
island but also has a population of 50 million. Countries have lots of people in them
and lots of things happen. You can put spin on things however you choose, take me for
instance, I go to university in Manchester, a northern industrial city in England. It
has the largest student population in Europe and has several universities and
colleges in a small area in the city. It is a very popular place to come with lots of
opportunities for students, commonwealth games facilities being built, one of the top
universities in the country, a huge music scene etc. that's the good spin. Or i could
tell you the horror stories of the students living in the inner city poor areas that
they can afford. I can tell you how i w as walking home one night on my own road
where I live, same way i had for over a year when 3 men jumped out put a knife to my
throat and stole everything i had on me and money from an ATM. or i could tell you
about other friends who have been thrown in the back of cars and driven around till
their cards max out, or how the newspaper reported 800 student muggings in one term.
that's the bad spin where you point out the bad points the drug addicts and
shootings. So what do you do? people still come cos its a good place to go. This
looks like you should say no don't come here its a bad place but its not its the real
world and most places are the same. I hear similar stories form most students in
inner city areas. So we apply this to other areas like you speak of. People talk of
say Health care. There are no perfect health care systems and all are open to
mistakes and problems. Take the UK we have a free health system, requiring no
insurance. private insurance is available if you want it and can afford it but
everyone is entitled to the free health care. But you c an find the same horror
stories. I can look at the news archives for the recent year and see a guy who had
his cancer misdiagnosed 12 times by different doctors or about hospitals keeping dead
children's organs without parental consent , or people being left in corridors on
trolleys cos there arn't any beds or doctors. the UK's National Health System is
falling apart from under funding. Canada tries and offers decent health care
affordable to people with good coverage. its gonna have its mistakes and problems as
all do but at least there is access. it snot reason to not live in a country cos you
wont find anywhere perfect or in fact many places better if you want the style of
life you can lead in Canada. Would you prefer there was a US system? where if you are
rich and well insured you get great health care cos the hospitals have the money and
invest it and have great facilities and pay their staff, but if you are poor you can
forget it and get no health care? UK and Canada may have health care problems but at
least if you are poor you can get some treatment. The same goes for all areas of life
, Crime, yes Canada has crime, everywhere does. and the worst crime is gonna be in
the big cities cos that's how it works so yes Toronto will have worse crime figures
than say if you live in a small town in the Yukon. But if you compare Canada's crime
statistics to the USA or UK you see why it has a reputation for low crime. The crimes
may be as bad as other places, murder mugging robbery, but it occurs less frequently.
so the horror stories you will hear sound the same cos the crime is the same. there
are just much less of them. Maybe we need some of the immigrants horror stories form
the UK or USA to see how similar they really are. But when it comes to the end of it
all Canada doesn't have it's good reputation just cos the media lie to new immigrants
and then don't let anyone ever tell anyone so no one knows, it has it's reputation
because the majority of people are very happy. You can't find that quality and style
of life you can lead in Canada in many other places. That's why it gets the UN and
world banks top country to live in every year, and it's cities have won best cities
to live in along with others from around the world. It is true that people need to
know the reality of where they are choosing to live, especially if they cant visit it
for themselves and have to rely on what people tell them, but concentrating on the
negative events pastes a bias picture. you have to compare them in context to the
benefits. You can get bad health care, attacked and robbed any place in the planet
you want to live, that's a fact of every country, but do you get the quality of life
and opportunity in exchange for that in other countries ?

anyway i think basically people are leaving their country to look for somewhere with
more opportunity or a different style of life, the bad things are constant across the
world you cant escape them but you c an go to where they seem smallest and are
overshadowed by the good things.

Drew

IMHO it's far better than the UK in almost every respect. The quality of TV
programming is better in the UK, but that's about it!

    >

The true picture includes good and bad, and in most cases it's good. Sure it's not
always an easy life here, or anywhere else for that matter, but if you take the
average level of satisfaction with Canada I'm sure it's on the high side.

If you are coming from an underdeveloped country or even a developing one, anything
else would sound like heaven. I am sure canada will too.The country I belong to has
major problems, to name a few-

1.Electricity is not regular
2.roads are bad
3.pollution
4.population out of control
5.people have no civic sense
6.garbage all around, pathetic civiv amenities
7.cattle roaming the streets, even unescorted stray dogs
8.corruption
9.Governmental highhandedness
10.pathetic medical system for those who cannot pay
11.pathetic schooling system for those who cannot pay
12.water problem
13.poor infrastructure

and all this in the capital city alone

I am sure canada can do better than that (for my fellow countrymen, who would know
which country I am talking about, please feel free to add anything I have missed)

Disclaimer: I am not trying to criticize one country becuase I wish to prove a point
for another, all I am saying is that there are problems everywhere, one just needs to
learn to fight the odds

points 5 and 6 from your list: no civic amentities, no civic sense.....
i dont know if you live in india or are in canada, but regardless, ask someone about gerrard street in toronto. they'll tell you its full of indian shops, many of which are probably contravening the health acts, litter everywhere, people spitting on pavements, filthy haalal meat shops, etc etc.....this is what gives everyone a bad name; simple villagers (paindoos i think they are called)who have come over here and brought over their filthy habits with them. and yet they have such big heads, its unbelievable!!

No, you are bringing anecdotes to the people and suggesting that they are to be
expected in most cases.
