Amount of money required for a six month visit

I am about to come to Canada to visit for six months from the UK, roughly how much
money will immigration require me to be in possesion of upon landing?

All info greatfully recieved.

you don't need too much really. The first time i went i was going for 3 months and
they took me aside to check my reasons for goign etc and ask for proof of funds. i
had about $500 in canadian fund travelers cheques and i showed that i had a Visa
credit card and a cash card that i could use in canadian ATM machines. that seemed to
satisfy them.
