Hello, as I am now 18, I applied for IEC 2 months ago now, and I have not heard anything back from them about being accepted. I then looked on the web-page a few nights back and it said there is now only a 0-19% chance of being accepted in the next pool of applicants.

Because I am still wanting to stay in British Columbia for some time (not permanently), can I apply for an open work permit to get a job full time/part time in a restaurant, e.g. Boston Pizza etc...

I have done the 'find out if you are eligible' questionnaire and it does say I may be eligible to apply for an open work permit. But as I have found out from my previous posts, you guys are really helpful, so I thought i'd double check if this would be the correct thing to do.

No, sorry, not from what you’ve said. Open work permits are only issued under certain circumstances (including IEC, which is probably why it’s sggesting you may be eligible for one). Unless you have a spouse with an existing work or study permit that you’ve not mentioned, then there wouldn’t be another type you’d be eligible for.

Not a lot you can do other than put your patient pants on and apply for an IEC under the 2019 program if you don’t get lucky this year.
