For everyone interested --> Bill C-11 passed by the House of Commons on Wednesday,
June 13. Now it will be the Senate turn after the summer break to debate and

Does anyone have a list of the major points of this bill? I'm curious about what
effects it will have regarding future sponsorship and citizenship plans of many
landed immigrants. Thanks!

Text of Bill C-11 as passed by the House of Commons is not published yet, it should
be up in a few days. But note that it still may be changed or amended in the Senate,
so discussion about particular details now is still mood. As for citizenship plans -
Bill C-11 is a new Immigration Act and has nothing to do with citizenship issues
which are ruled by current Citizenship Act.

Senate is still in session today, only House of Commons finished business on
Wednesday. Usually summer break lasts till mid of September. Every bill is different,
some pass through the Senate within weeks, while some take several months. The
process in the Senate is similar to the one in the House - you can learn about the
process here:

Thank you Mr. Miller.
I checked the parl.gc.ca, it seems that the bill was introduced in the senate on 6/14
and read the first time, also a second reading is scheduled in 2 days.

That doesn't necessarily mean, though, that the bill will be passed quickly by
the Senate.
After a bill has received first and second reading, it is referred to a committee for
detailed study, hearings, and debate. The third reading, debate, and a vote by the
full House (or Senate) doesn't happen until after the committee has finished its
proceedings and issued a final report on the bill. This could easily take months,
especially since this particular bill has never been reviewed by the Senate before
(its predecessor, Bill C-31 in the pre-election Parliament, never made it out of the
House of Commons).
