Application of PR Card
Dear Mr. Miller,
I landed in Canada on June 12, 2002 and left June 18, 2002 for business reasons in another country. I have not applied for PR Card since then. My questions are the following:
- When is the last day of filing for PR Card, since I already missed the filing dates where I should fall?
- Can I still apply for the PR Card by end November 2003?
- How long does it take to wait for the PR Card?
- Do I have to be in Canada while waiting for the PR Card to be released?
Thank you so much for your assistance.
Best regards,
Allan

Re: Application of PR Card
There is absolutely no deadline for PR Card application - one can apply for
it at any given time. The only deadline is December 31, 2003 - after that
date landing papers (IMM 1000) will not be valid for travel anymore. If you
can't return to Canada prior to the end of 2003 then you will have to apply
for Travel Document that will facilitate your return to Canada after that
date.
Once you are back in Canada and apply for PR card you will be notified about
exact date and time when it will be ready for pick-up - you will have to
pick it up personally.

Re: Application of PR Card
Correction....the IM1000 can still be used if coming back from the USA. That
is according to CIC officers I talked to.

Re: Application of PR Card
All commercial carriers (regardless where) will not board a passenger
bound to Canada with only IMM 1000 after 2003.
