Default Americans moving to Canada

Hi,

I moved to Canada from the UK some years ago now and received my citizenship about two years ago. I recently started dating an American girl who would like to come to Canada to see how things go with the relationship.
When I first came to Canada I was on an open work permit, I thought this would be a great option for her. However, I can't find where she can apply for one of those?
If someone has any suggestions for this it would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

You presumably came over on a Working Holiday Visa? Unfortunately, that's not an option for citizens of the US so there's no open work permit she can get. She'll need a job offer and LMIA for a work permit (which would be tied to the employer that sponsored her rather than open).

HTH.

If she is a US citizen, it might be worth exploring Work Permits issued under NAFTA. However, this requires a job offer in one of about sixty odd professions with the supporting qualifications and/or experience. A work permit issued under the NAFTA is LMIA exempt but still would be tied to a particular employer. You can see the list of professions in Appendix 1603.D1:

International Mobility Program: North American Free Trade Agreement
