Oh dear, I've clearly lost the plot but the "inspectors" got me confused because if the "garage" tax is only 6.000 forint .... why did they have to come here in person for such a small sum of money.

As was said above recently car tax was moved from a local government revenue stream to central government so I can imagine some councils looking to replace this shortfall somehow and will probably be looking at the optional (for them!) taxes. I believe some static motoring offences go to local government.

What your local council charges should be listed on their web site. Try googling (village name) helyi ado or go to their web site

When thinking about local tax compare what you pay here with the UK community charge. Even after dividing by 4 to allow for differing wage rates it is still (very) cheap here.

Well Blimey, If they want to tax my garage they better act quickly, It is about to collapse and one good earthquake or a real high wind may finish it off anyday. I actually spoke with the Polgameister in the early part of the summer about knocking it down. he said I do not need permission just do it. An acquantance is planning to knock it down for the brick and roof tile soon anyway.

Ok this is good to know. I am aware it could vary by area, but 6000 forint is no worry, I definitely need a couple of garages

I cannot say whether wolves are in this area but I can say for certain Jackals and Foxes are in the forest behind my property because I have seen them in my garden a few years ago before I installed my new fences.
