Window Shutter Straps
Past one week two straps have snapped. To be honest they were in very bad condition. For another window I, myself, yanked too hard and the window shutters shot up so fast half fell apart!
Thought about repairing them myself but got too much to do so will call in a professional.
Hoping to get brand new shutters when we replace all the windows.
I've noted the strap can be different widths, I.e. mine are 15mm but at mother-in-law house 50mm. Which is best?

I really think the 50mm are better but just my opinion. Probably after some years they dry rot and no matter the width they just fall apart.

Re: Window Shutter Straps
Best to replace the straps with what was fitted originally as the clamps and fittings will generally be for a specific width,
About shutters in general - depending upon the type they can be the source of tremendous heat loss, especially those that sit in the wall in a box over the window with the lifting strap down one side of the inside of the window.. Often there is only a thin wooden partition between the inside and the outside and the heat loss and gale of uncontrolled 'ventilation' is disastrous.

Our last apartment we had 50mm, 15 mm sounds a bit skinny to me!
