Default Summer 2011 events & festivals in & around the lake

Hi, I thought it might be an idea to start an events thread, which I hope you will all contribute to

If you hear about an event, festival, concert or similar, please post details such as venue, date, time, price and other available info. Hopefully I will find time tomorrow to add some events and I look forward to seeing what others recommend

Looking through the Keszthely programme, I saw that on Saturday 28th May and Sunday 29th May, it will be Childrens Day at the pedestrianised main road, and Balaton shore bandstand respectively. Lots of childrens entertainment, competitions, exhibitions and music etc. Thought this might be of interest to those with children.

Thanks for those Bronty & John, we hope to visit the event in Keszthely tomorrow or Sunday.

Zalakaros Pentecost Picnic June 12 2011th
Festivals in Zalakaros usually consist of day time activities and entertainment for the children as well as a craft market, whilst in the evening, wine and food vendors can be found next to the bus station along with live music. Though this one, I believe, is only day time activities with traditional Hungarian pastries - from poppy seed to cabbage - available to try/buy.

Default Events in June

A couple for the diary:

17th -19th of June sees the Dragonboat championships taking place at the Nagykanisza boating lake. This is supposed to be a really fun event.

18th of June is the date for the annual Kis Balaton fish festival. The event is held in the village of Zalaszabar, 10 minutes from Zalakaros and about 20 from Keszthely. It's basically a locally renowned village fete with stalls, BBQ, music and the all important fish stew cooking competition. Good fun and the locals are very friendly and welcoming

I do believe, well in fact we have had it these last 2 years, there is a local tourist brochure that the Tourist Office produces in Hungarian, English & German for all the summer events and festivals along the Balaton coast. It can be got at the tourist information or even in the libraries I believe.

The magazine is called Balaton Funzine. They have nicked my photographs in every edition so far! It is very good though.

Seriously? I would ask to at least be credited for them!

We haven't picked up this years but had hoped to hear of events which posters have experience of or have heard good feedback about. There is nothing worse than making the effort to attend an event only to discover it's not quite as the blurb described it, I speak from experience

Default Summer 2011 events & festivals in & around the lake: Golf

Not a golfer myself but just found this in the German online newspaper for the Balaton:

Am 9. Juli 2011 lädt der Golfclub Imperial Balaton zum GCI-Cup nach Balatongyörök ein. Auf dem wunderschön gelegenen Platz unweit der Urlaubsorte Vonyarcvashegy, Keszthely und Hévíz werden zahlreiche Teilnehmer und Zuschauer erwartet. Im Café gibt es Erfrischungen, am clubeigenen Strand kann gebadet werden.

On July 9 the Golfclub Imperial Balaton invites you to the GCI-Cup in Balatongyörök. We are expecting quite a number of participants and spectators to this lovely course not far from the tourist resorts of Vonyarcvashegy (I can recommend the beach here!), Keszthely and Hévíz. There will be refreshments in the cafe/ clubhouse and you can swim on the club's private beach!

Golf club's link (though the English version has quite a few German words thrown in!): http://www.imperial-balaton.com/en/
