Sterling is getting stronger due to the problems with Coronavirus in Europe and the exchange rate at the moment between sterling and forint is 441.28 .... that's the highest I can remember seeing it !

If you're earning in Forints it is getting tighter and tighter. Wife was talking to a few friends and 22,000 HUF is buying a lot less food than even a year ago. I'm on decent money but there isn't a lot left by the end of the month after the bills and just basic shopping.

Whilst large is a relative term when I recently had to transfer a large sum I was told by transferwise (now wise) that large sums can generate lots of money laundering paperwork which = delays so best to do the transfer in sums of 10,000 GBP or less a day or 2 apart, which I did and I still got a phone call from my bank asking if I did make the transfers but this was just checking authenticity against theft.

That would have to be some transfers GBP/HUF currently trading 40,000 contracts per day, the question is who will move first on the interest rates Europe or the UK
personally I would like 380ft for May

If you have (UK) state pension paid directly to a Hungarian Bank you are 'gaining' almost 50,000 fts per month @ todays rate of 440 compared to last years rate of 350, But it's all relative.

Poor old forint has taken another dive. Bad for Hungary but a good opportunity for those of us with foreign derived incomes to boost our donations, particularly in respect of the current crisis. We occasionally do the Hungarian Food Bank Association, particularly at Christmas. Have set up a regular standing order for the foreseeable. Really crucial now.

The pound went down against the dollar recently so I bought a few thousand pounds seeing as I’m returning home soon for good.
