No snow this Xmas/ New Year

Re: No snow this Xmas/ New Year
RANT:
-11*c overnight and temperatures not getting above -7*c during the day for the 2nd day and my car wouldn't start, despite the battery being on charge overnight. Car shared with my wife and the alternator went on her car at lunchtime. Result - stuck in town 15 miles from home with no vehicle. Bought a new battery for my car and had to ask for a lift home (thank you ever so much Mil and Julie). My car now starts but have to go back and remove the alternator from my wife's car tomorrow (whilst both of us are working) and get it checked and hopefully repaired (new brushes), all with 2 working days before Christmas!!!!!!
After 7 weeks of sobriety I'm going to get pi55ed tonight.Edit

Just a few mm snow left here near the Balaton - and the weather forecast for Xmas Eve is 10 degrees Celsius plus!

Re: No snow this Xmas/ New Year
We had another 5cm of snow today. It hasn't got above freezing for a few days now and the roads were treacherous this afternoon....but that didn't stop the idiots flying about.

Today, we had freezing rain here that is on top of the snow we received the other day that still has mostly not melted. Has not been above freezing for almost a week. Welcome to Hungary. Time for some Holiday Palinka.

Around the Balaton of course temperatures are a bit higher - but heavy fog this morning ...
We got some bottles of wine as Xmas presents - but only sweet ones!
Don't get it how people can drink that ...

Not exactly cheap but you don't need to pay as much as that!

I tried Eiswein in Germany - but not my taste, somehow just like a sweet Sherry or liqueur.
Re weather:
This morning we had lovely sunshine but now it started to rain - at almost 10 degrees that means that the last vestiges of snow are disappearing ...
Anyway I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

How about Unicum? Anyone like the stuff? Reminds me of Jagermeister

Re: No snow this Xmas/ New Year
Well - I don't like it and neither do I drink German Jägermeister which is often called "Leberkleister" i e liver paste ...
But I know people here who drink it with every meal and I just brought two bottles to family in Germany who like it too, but only have a glass once in a while.
PS and not too much OT:
When I first came to Hungary I was kind of shocked how cheap pálinka was and that the regular portion was 40 or 50 ml - around 1.5 ounces (in Germany it's 20 ml, less than an ounce). 30 ml is a "small drink" or a lady's portion
But of course that's nothing compared to the East of Europe!
We once drove our camping van through Bulgaria (wanted to go to Turkey) and invited the guy who helped us on the camp site to a drink - he ordered "shto gramm" (100 ml), that's more than three ounces which he downed in one gulp ...

My step dad was Austrian, at his wedding to my mum our table drank Jägermeister shots all night. We built a huge tower out of the shot glasses. My kneecaps were still twitching a week later
