Default Newbie in Hungary

Good afternoon all,
We have just bought a beautiful house in Borsfa, can anyone offer some useful insights into the area? Its a holiday home at the moment but we plan to settle in a few tears time. The house is in great condition but would benefit from a new front door and metal fencing, any advise on finding trades would be welcomed.

Deb

I know a shop in Nagykanizsa that sells a good range of entrance doors (most houses in Hungary don't actually have a door at the front) but I would not know about tradesmen to fit them. You really need a contact who speaks Hungarian and English so you you can ask other people in your village. For example, if you see a house with new fencing that looks good you could ask them who did the job. Your village is close enough to Lendava in Slovenia that you might be able to find tradesmen there willing to cross the border. The advantage to that is you are more likely to find someone who speaks English in Slovenia.

If you like we could meet up in town some time and I could show you various useful shops I have gradually discovered since coming here. I used to get a lot of things in OBI as it is easier but their stuff is mostly expensive and of poor quality so it is better to find specialist shops.

HI, we rented in Borsfa for 8 months, while we were renovating our home in a nearby village. So you are more than welcome to pick our brains about anything you wish to know. PM me or drop in for a cuppa.
