New to Hungary

Re: New to Hungary
Thanks Pol, it's because they can. I once advised a new poster not to advertise and got called everything under the sun - I know of them off line and they are meant to be a really nice person but they didn't like being told not to do something - if I were a random mod, with no Hungarian connection, I doubt they would have reacted as they did. "Knowing" or "knowing of" people offline seems to make it personal for some.
Another person, offline, had a good old bitch about me and how I mentioned to Dave that his literal translation of gloss paint wasn't what it says on the tin - don't think Dave gave it a second thought - some people are just strange.
People don't like hearing the truth, for some, it's a case of holding up a mirror and forcing them to confront realities they would prefer to ignore (a good friend told me that) and others are just irked that folk on here are willing to speak out about the good and bad experiences.

You say you did your research, no problems.... Yet you bought from an agent who typically adds 100% to the real value of a property - how can you not think you were ripped off? Funny how you turn up, a new poster, offering to put him in touch with the very people we are warning him about. Sickens me to the stomach

Rural, I am now completely lost in the things you are posting, no names are used so how do you know that lelawala was going to induce us to the people you are warning us about? I joined to get support and help but are just getting warning and now you refer to the area as a vipers nest please remember I have purchased in that area.

I did my research.
As others on here have posted, try and use local workers, get to know people and the area - and not just Brits. Spend some time there and get a feel for the place.
As you know, I offered for my husband, free of charge, to go and chat with your mayor and ask if there are English speakers - he could ask if any local builders speak English but I understand you wanting to sort it yourself.
