Thanks zsofi, different from the UK then where it is given in High School. I will look up the side effects before taking the matter further.

I said above that someone should test the compulsion of vaccines in Strasbourg - and of course someone has

A ruling by the European Court of Human Rights issued in 2002 had stated that "as an involuntary medical treatment, mandatory vaccination interferes with the right to privacy as guaranteed by Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms

than you Peter for looking this up. There are several cases in Hungary, and normally they don't give a toss about strasbourg, just as they disregard the WHO recomendations at childbirth. I forward your link to my friends.
You can follow the case of Roland and Cheryl vs Hungary here: http://echotanya.blogspot.hu/ it is in Hungarian, but I am pretty sure they have an English blog as well.

Thank you both for the links. Granted parents have the choice in the UK but believe me, it is not made easy for parents. My son reacted to his first MMR, we believe this was due to the vaccine being cultured in egg which he was allergic to. Three years later, we decided to opt out of the second MMR vaccination, on informing the surgery of our decision, I was subjected to the most horrid personal attack! "Did I know how grateful parents in Africa would be for their child to receive this vaccination, did I realise the damage I could be doing to my child, any self respecting parent who cared for their child would ensure their child was vaccinated, did I consider my responsibility to the community as by not vaccinating my child, I could be putting other people at risk." I ended up in tears and my son had the vaccination

It difficult to resist the pressure, but in such circumstances turning the tables can help, If there was a reaction to the first vaccination then ask the doctor to sign a document taking full responsibility for any problems with the second. Then see what happens. The other solution is to do it all in writing because we have found that people (especially in Hungary) will give very different answers in writing as opposed to verbal.

What is needed by the parent is informed consent. IMO getting a note to sign for the next day does not allow enough time for informed consent.

I am for vaccination. Look at the measles problem in Wales, but again IMO this is as a result of mismanagement of the MMR issues. Why not allow the single vaccine for instance? We had similar pressures in the UK but we delayed the vaccination until after the critical age (based on the information of the day)

In Hungary we had our kids come home from school saying they had an injection!!! We complained but were told this was the law, but then this was before Hungary was in the EU so no protection from Article 8, and before the case quoted above. Times have changed now, just that some authorities don't know this yet and need reminding by quoting the relevant law, which I have found usually works (especially if its an EU law)

Zsofi, My information is that TB is on the increase in Hungary in certain sections of the population and in particular the resistant strain of TB has been seen. There is a program of periodic Xray to detect TB early and when we came here we were told that this was compulsory, now we are not told its compulsory but strongly advised to take the opportunity. Ditto mammograms and bone density scans for those of the relevant age.

I was somewhat set upon as I only attended the clinic to have the twins vaccinated where upon I was informed my sons MMR was overdue.
Had it not been for the reaction, I would have chosen for him to have the second dose.

It appears that the UK no longer immunises against TB though it is available on request.
