Does anyone know the name of the BCG jab in Hungarian? I assume it is the BCG, the one they get when they are 13.

It is BCG in Hungarian as well unfortunately. I hope you are not looking to have it for anybody you love though.

Unfortunately yes, I have to write a consent letter for my daughter to have it at school tomorrow! In the UK, they do a test injection first and if there is a reaction within a certain number of days, they do or don't give the BCG injection (I can't remember which way round it is). From what my daughter has said, it seems that they all have the BCG injection

I only hope that is what I am giving permission for in my pigeon Hungarian!!!
Tisztelt Hölgyem / Uram,
ÃÂrok, igy jóváhagyás a lányomnak, meg kell adni a BCG injekciót.

Okay, daughter says she is sure it wasn't the BCG and was something like Hep B or Hepatitis B, does anyone know if this is given in Hungary at age 13? I could always write "the injection" as I'm sure they won't interpret that as the go ahead to use her for medical trials

There wasn't even anything to understand Peter. Daughter came home and said that every child in the school is having their injection and I had to write a note giving permission for her to do so.
The pigeon Hungarian above was my reply though I ended up writing it in English as I know that there are English speaking teachers in the school.
The injection doesn't concern me too much as I know in the UK they receive one at this age, the BCG, it was the confusion over the name - hip B or hep B. My daughter was adamant that she had to have it as all her friends were! You know what teenagers are like!

My reply might be a bit late but checked anyway on prevenciopatika.hu and yes Hepatitis B injection due at the age of 13-14yrs. The article also mentions that there will be another one of the same in 6 months time.

vaccinations are obligatory in this country, there are no exemptions. If you turn one down they will prosecute the parent. A couple in Szombathely recieved 4 months suspended and the kids were vaccinated by force.
here is a list of the obligatory and recommended shots:

That needs testing in Strasbourg - I'm in favour of vaccinations but more in favour of individual freedoms and the right to refuse unwanted medical procedures.
If its so obligatory - why the need to consent????

Peter, Hungary is really weird in this matter, it is like England 50 years ago. Do you know that there is a midwife who has been under house arrest for over 2 years for helping at homebirth? http://freegereb.org/english
We also like being able to make decisions about our children (and our bodies) so we are moving back to England.

She had to have one because she is English? As Szofi said, I don't think the Hungarian parents had a choice.

Thanks all for your replies. It was the hep B injection she had. Interestingly, the BCG appears to be given in Hungary when the child is a few months old and so I will have to enquire about the children having it done at the doctors.

the BCG is only given to under 1 year olds. It is 60 year old usless vaccine anyway, but has a big array of side effects. No BCG in austria, and there is no TB threat in Hungary.
