Default Is horse meat traditional Hungarian cuisine?

In my ongoing search for a decent local restaurant, I was recently recommended to try the Green Elephant in Zalapati. Looking through their menu, I noticed several horse meat dishes and wondered whether horse meat was traditionally eaten in Hungary?

Don't think so. Given the traditional attachment to horses I would doubt it. Never seen it on a menu. Of course I stand to be corrected. Did you try some?

That's what we thought. This is the first menu we have seen it on, haven't tried the restaurant yet. It has been recommended to us twice now but the size of the menu worries me slightly

I have found salami made from horse in Budapest. It is quite common here- have not bought any though. I am not too fond of Hungarian salami and am not really about to try a new variety.

Hi Rural
we have eaten at the Green Elephant twice in the past couple of years, when over that way, can reccommend it. Very nice food and service, and cosy in winter.
Might be nice to start a strand on good restaurants in the area, as there are some worth going back to and some not.
Also depends on the company you're with, which we have been very lucky with.
