Quite right about stressful times. With the coronavirus situation in the UK it has been very difficult to get anything done, i.e. take junk to the rubbish tip, get British Gas to service my boiler one last time, sort out some minor repairs, etc. due to the lockdown! I am expecting our buyers to be upset and will complain but they did say they wanted to exchange as soon as possible! They should have been aware of the lockdown situation for everyone involved.

Luckily my Hungarian sister-in-law has been very helpful and will be helping us sort things out once we arrive.

Your sister in law will prove to be a Godsend in helping you make the transition once you are here !
I'm not sure what it is like in other parts of Hungary but here the restrictions are not very noticeable in regards to the virus ... masks have to be worn in most shops and most people abide by that but the rule of wearing a mask on the bus is pretty well ignored. Bars and restaurants are open as normal and there does not appear to be any concept of social distancing ...

ecurb is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Re: Entry to Hungary

The entry rules are changing from the 15th July, without going into every case,
Countries are classed as green, yellow or red. (UK is yellow)
Green no real restrictions.
Yellow, health check on entry with possibility of being denied entry if there is suspected CV19 otherwise 14 day self isolation probably required.
Red, no entry for non Hungarian nationals.
There is also the possibility of avoiding self isolation or shortening it by having negative test/s results prior to entry or during 14 day isolation.
Slightly different rules for Hungarian national such as entry from Red list is possible.

It will be funny if my Hungarian wife doesn't have to self isolate and I do! Atleast my mother-in-law's garden is big enough for me to walk around without going mad!

Long term aspects:
Just read (the beginning of ...) an article in the Times which sounds ominous, sorry can't link to it.
Travelling to the Continent will be a different experience next year as ministers prepare a “nudge” and “shove” plan to slowly prepare Britons for a post-Brexit future. The government is launching an information campaign with warnings about passports, travel insurance, mobile phone charges and travelling with pets. The initiative, “The UK’s new start: let’s get going”, features guidance for visiting the EU from January 1. Much of the information is aimed at raising awareness of higher costs, with travel insurance premiums expected to rise once eligibility for free healthcare in EU countries ends.
Luckily for us my sister and her English family just got new German passports - so they can choose wherever they travel.
We're waiting for them ...

Funny I don't remember that being part of the Brexit campaign.

It was, however, part of the Remain campaign which Boris and his chums gleefully dismissed as Project Fear.

Damn - looks like we may not be able to get our dog over to Hungary via a pet transporter by road!

As I understand it it's the country you've travelled from, not your nationality \that determines whether you're allowed to enter Hungary. As France is a "green" country perhaps you could take Archie to Calais for example, and arrange for the pet transporting company to collect him from there?

The pet transporting company is based in UK. Another option has come up for a EU registered company but the dates are not suitable.

Do you know anyone in Hungary who could collect him from the UK company somewhere like Vienna and bring him over the border?

Possibly. Agi is waiting for her sister to come online so we can have a chat about this. Maybe a swap over on the other side of the border in Austria. Obviously, they would both have to time things so neither has to wait too long for the other!

So, flying from Luton = test and quarantine but driving via France, Belgium, Germany & Austria = straight in no nothing?

Today I drove from Germany to Hungary, via Austria of course - there were quite a few British cars on the road btw.
There were no checks at all at the German/Austrian border (bridge over the Inn near Braunau), and also no checks, no waiting on the motorway Vienna/Budapest. Nickelsdorf is the name of the border station.
But there was a long line of cars in the other direction, waiting to get from Hungary to Austria. When I drove from Hungary to Austria 10 days ago there was nothing at all in both directions, just a slowdown.
So things can change unexpectedly ...

Archie is Fen Tiger's dog who was due to be transported from the UK to Hungary by a UK Pet Transporter company. Dogs arriving from the UK don't have to take a Covid-19 test unlike the humans who travel with them and neither do Hungarians travelling to Austria, which is why I was suggesting someone pop over the border and collect him from the transport company and bring him into Hungary.
